About

My name is David Peralty, and I currently live in Brockville, Ontario Canada. I come from a military family, and so when people ask me where “home” is, I laugh. I have lived in both beautiful British Columbia and Ontario, Canada. My family went back and forth between the two provinces and as such, I have never lived anywhere longer than five years.

When I was young, I became interested in geek culture, both in the computer and gaming worlds and decided before I even went to High School what I wanted to do with my life. All of that was thrown for a loop when I ended up without a stable job, and ended up writing about my passions online. Darren Rowse was the first to give me a chance in 2005 and since then, I have been working from wherever I call home on various projects online.

I still enjoy computers, video games, science fiction and other elements of what is traditionally known as “geek culture”, but have branched off in focusing more on how online business work, sustain themselves and even grow, and in balancing that, I have been learning more about myself, web workers and the online advertising business.

Client List

I have been very fortunate to have worked with so many great companies in various ways, from consulting to full site development.

These are just a small sample of the businesses I have worked with in one capacity or another.

Blogging

I have worked on more than a few blogs since I started writing professionally, and so this list only includes a cross section of a few of my favourites.

This list does not include the nearly fifty or so other blogs that I have contributed to over the course of the last six years.

Total Site Development

I was the Project Manager for College Crunch, where was able to build out a site that received over 180,000 page views per month, and had a revenue of mid-four figures per month.

Responsibilities included:

  • link building
  • social media optimization
  • search engine optimization
  • content creation
  • affiliate program management and integration

The site had, before I left, over 900 content pages, and well over one hundred blog posts. From September 2008 to September 2009, the site went from not existing to getting over 180,000 page views per month with almost half coming directly from search.

Past Speeches

I have slowly realized how great it is to speak at conferences and events and have begun to speak at more and more events on a variety of different topics, using what I have learned over the last three years to help others.

Some of the past places where you might have heard me speak include:

  • Barcamp Ottawa
  • Moosecamp
  • Blog World Expo
  • WordCamp Toronto

I was fortunate enough to speak on two panels at Blog World Expo, where I was the only speaker that year to do so, and I’ve been invited to speak at WordCamp Toronto twice in its four years of existence.

Podcasts

I am a very passionate person and there is no better way to make your passion contagious than to use the audio medium to get your voice out there as the excitement is felt in a much stronger way than text can ever do. I have been a part of many great podcasts, and continue to lend my time and opinions to as many as possible.

Some of my past and present podcasting endeavours include:

  • WordPress Weekly
  • The WordPress Podcast
  • TechCanuck
  • Xfep Podcast
  • Forevergeek Podcast
  • PerfCast
  • TVGawker Podcast
